About Zee's Franchise Football

I have played Fantasy Football since before it was popularized by the internet.  I can remember looking up player statistics in the newspaper on Monday and calculating team points.  Our league rule was that you had to calculate the score of your own team and of your opponent, and you both had to sign the results before you submitted them.  As League Commissioner, I would compile all the results and publish a weekly newsletter with the updated league standings.  I would also search through the available free agents, and make a team made up of the best available guys.  This team often outscored most of the league, and everyone would scramble to try to get them for the next week. Those were the days!

Now, all of the player statistics are available live, as the games are being played, and the injury status and player rankings are all very common place.  What seems to be lacking today, however, is the camaraderie and friendship that came along with a Fantasy Football League.  There was a unity and a bond that the league members all felt with each other, because we all felt that we were involved in something special.

My goal in developing Franchise Football, was to make a format that requires a little more strategy; more thinking than what most other Fantasy Leagues have.  Something that will keep the league members a little more involved and hopefully interested enough to come back year after year.  It's really a lot more rewarding when you build a team from the bottom ranks of a league and eventually dominate all of your opponents that have beaten you down over the years.

The focus of Franchise Football is twofold.  The first objective is to play a format that requires some foresight and planning.  The Franchise fund responsibilities, the keeper format, the auction draft, the rookie development and even the coaching staff are all directed at this objective.  The second objective is to build leagues that are full of acquaintances that look forward to the yearly competition.  This goal is accomplished by encouraging league communications though the message boards, and by making trading players a more economical alternative than signing free agents.  Even little things like insisting that team names include your city, helps to build a long term relationship with your fellow competitors.  So, please, talk to each other, find out which players your opponents covet, and hopefully you will build rivalries and friendships that will span the years.
